Awhile back we visited the Gypsy Lumberjacks at the Cabooze. This band has a blend of Flamenco, bluegrass, improvisational rock, gypsy jazz and good old-fashioned beer swillin’ music that really gets the crowd moving. Before the show we caught up with them and talked the going-on's of the band. These guys play frequently around the state so be sure to check their site for upcoming shows. Check out their website to keep updated.

Minnesota Music Showcase Episode 4 Andy Ulseth and the Broken Bones
We followed Andy Ulseth with Broken Bones at their CD release performance at 331 along with their performance at Aster Cafe. Andy's skills as a pop singer/songwriter pour out of him with addictive melodies, a strong stage presence and lyrics that are honest and witty. We got an in-depth interview with Andy at his apartment, learning where his sound and inspiration come from.

Weekend of Awesome Music at Weber's Deck in French Lake, MN
Wow! Labor Day weekend in Minnesota is always a good time to hear great local shows, but this year takes the cake! Friday night I enjoyed a blast from the past at 331 with Kinda Kinky, a rocking Kinks cover band.
Saturday, the fair was calling and it had the soulful voice of the legend himself, Dr. John. As it turns out, we ran into our friends Red Daughters. I guess they heard Dr. John calling as well. In his seventies, Dr. John is rocking in his prime. He sat between a baby grand and an organ, switching back and forth and even jamming on both several times. I have a soft spot for New Orleans R&B and Dr. John is some seriously good music. After the show I met up with some of my partners in crime leaving the other big music event at the Fair. I was a little miffed that I missed Weezer but Dr. John is 70...
Sunday was wild, the Blue Bridge boys drove an hour and a half out to Weber's Deck in French Lake, MN to record the final show of Casey Weber's Sunday Services. Twelve hours of folk, country, blues, bluegrass, a whole roasted hog, and wonderful people in attendance. Weber's Deck was created several years ago by Casey Weber, who wanted to make an event that is family friendly, where you don't have to break the piggy bank to have the opportunity to see great national and local acts. Here are the musicians and bands that played.

Gabe Barnett & The Bighouse Jug Band

Minnesota Music Showcase Episode 3 featuring Red Daughters
For the third episode of Minnesota Music Showcase we met up with Red Daughters at the 7th St. Entry, and then we made a visit to the band's house to get their story. They jammed a stellar show and were very enjoyable to talk with, including the pimp chalice filled with Jell-O and the smoke machine. They have a new EP in the works, expect big things from these local boys. Check out Episode 3 now.

New Usonia
Here is a new single from USONIA, some nice indie pop from Minneapolis. I am not sure when we can expect a new album from them, but this new single sounds tight! Here is "Crown" from USONIA.
